There are separate versions of Thunderbird for Windows and Mac operating systems. These instructions apply to both systems.

On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
On the Account Settings page, click Account Actions, then click Add Mail Account.

On the Mail Account Setup page, in the Your Name box, enter the name that you want to appear in the "From" field of your outgoing messages, in the Email Address box, enter your e-mail address, and in the Password box, enter your password. Make sure there is a check in the Remember Password box, and click Continue
Thunderbird will attempt to check for server settings. Once it is done, click on the Manual Setup button.
Thunderbird will now display the Account Settings Screen. From the list on the left, click on Server Settings, and check that the settings appear like below (with your email address in place of zzzzzzzz@tele-net.net).
Next click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the list on the left side, and click on the Edit button on the right.
On the SMTP Server screen, make sure it looks like this:
Click OK, and exit from the setup routine.
Congratulations, your Thunderbird email account is now set up. To test it, simply send yourself an email.
